Areas of Practice

Stephen Russell is the Managing Partner of Russell and Company, a specialist commercial litigation firm practising in Brisbane.

He is a solicitor of the Supreme Courts of Queensland and Victoria; his name is on the roll of the High Court of Australia. He is accredited by the Queensland Law Society as a Commercial Litigation Specialist.

Mr Russell also has extensive experience in mediation and is approved by the Queensland Law Society as a Mediator. He accepts engagements as a mediator for all business and corporate disputes.

Mr Russell was admitted in 1983 and has practised continuously and exclusively in commercial litigation since then, with a particular emphasis on business disputes.

He has participated as a lecturer in the IPAA Tuition Course and has presented numerous papers and speeches, including for Legal and Accounting Management Services and for the Continuing Legal Education department of the Queensland Law Society Inc. He is the author of "Bankruptcy and Insolvency: The Rights and Remedies of Foreign Creditors in Australia", published in the International Law Review of the Centre for International Legal Studies in Vienna.

He has acted extensively for small and medium sized public and private companies, banks, financiers, liquidators, receivers, administrators and other insolvency appointees.

Mr Russell has also acted for both plaintiffs and defendants in professional negligence claims involving valuers, accountants, auditors and lawyers. He has been called as an expert witness in the Supreme Court in relation to litigation practice.

He also has a very active practice in commercial litigation and advice concerning mergers and acquisitions, intra company disputes, disputes concerning the administration of trading and other trusts, partnership dissolutions, joint venture disputes, intellectual property litigation and tax.
