Our firm was founded as a specialist in commercial and corporate litigation and dispute resolution. We now work as well in commercial property, corporate, business and commercial advice and transactions. Our practice is founded on our strength: We understand that disputes are bad for business.

Many of our clients are involved in a serious business dispute or have some kind of serious business problem. Often, a great deal of money is involved, but sometimes the sum or issue involved is relatively minor. Because we deal with so many business disputes, we know and understand their cost, not only in terms of money, but also time, distraction and simple loss of business momentum and opportunity.

Other clients recognise that what drove the creation of our practice has been resolutely carried over to our commercial, corporate and property practice - a commitment to the best solution, responsive and clear advice, and impressive service.

Some of our business clients may require our services only once or twice in their personal or corporate lives. We respect the reasons why clients come to us; and we do not bombard clients with attempts to cross-market other services. The only marketing and promotion we undertake is the work we do for our clients.

Our practice extends to private clients, small to medium sized businesses, listed and unlisted public companies, major insolvency practitioners, banks and financial institutions. In addition to our commercial and corporate work, we have developed a specialist insolvency practice over a period of many years. We have acted in some of Australia’s most significant corporate and personal insolvency cases.

The firm is committed to solving business disputes for its clients - finding the very best solutions for their business problems. Our approach to commercial and corporate litigation and dispute resolution naturally feeds into the firm’s practice in mediation, case appraisal, negotiation and all other structured and less formal forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Managing Partner Stephen Russell was a founding member of the Queensland Law Society’s ADR Committee. He has participated in mediations throughout Australia and is a Mediator, approved by the Queensland Law Society Inc.

The firm, through Steve Russell, takes engagements to act as mediator in all forms of business and corporate disputes.

Since our approach to our work involves a commitment to problem solving, we also have a strong corporate and commercial advice practice, which extends beyond problem issues, to the negotiating and documenting of corporate and business transactions, fundraising, tax and other business advice.
